One of Sri Lanka’s former capital cities, Anuradhapura is incredibly important both historically and culturally. The city, which has a large number of well-preserved historical sites and ancient stupas, was the heart of Buddhism for many years. One of the main draws is the hallowed Bodhi Tree, which was created from a sapling of the Bodhi Tree in India where Buddha first obtained enlightenment.
